Monochrome
This Art Journal page is the first one I created for Jennibellies Monthly Challenge Group: http://journalworkshops.ning.com/
We had to create a monochrome page but we were allowed to included one additional colour. Before I found out what this prompt was, I had been playing around trying to make a paint which you could spray easily through a stencil. I managed to do this by mixing black acrylic paint with water and then I put the watered down paint into a mini spray bottle and then I had fun playing around spraying it through various stencils I have.
This idea didn't exactly work out as planned. The colour was very faded and the whole process was extremely messy. However, I did quite like the end results. I was left with some very interesting patterned papers. I decided to use these papers for this prompt seeing as they where black/grey and white. They fitted the monochrome part of the challenge. I used these papers as the background for my page. Firstly I cut them down, and then placed them on to the page in a fairly geometric and striking way.
I liked the background, however the page needed something more. I searched through my sketches and found a face that I had previously drawn. She was perfect! I thought this face would fit nicely with this page. So I coloured one half of her face with Pro markers - Skin tones. Then I decided I wanted the other half of her face to be contrasting, so I painted it with black acrylic paint. Before sticking the face onto my page I painted on the shape of her neck and shoulders. I then glued the face in to position . I used a red Pro marker to give her luscious red lips, and in doing this I had completed the challenge.
However, the page didn't look finished to me. I wanted to add some writing or a quote. I found a suitable quote on Google, however I didn't agree with all of it, so I changed the words and made it my own. Now my art journal page was complete.
