Positive words

Journal 52 -Week 30 Prompt : Positive words.

I was looking through a newspaper for any positive words or anything else that might inspire me with this prompt.

I wasn't having much luck, almost all of the articles in the newspaper were negative... I had a look through some older newspapers which I had in my recycling box, where I did come across some stories with a more positive theme. I decided to cut out segments of each positive article I happened to find. I then took these happier articles and stuck them down to my art journal page, to form the start of a background.

Whilst the page was drying, I thought it would be a good idea to have a bright yellow, happy sunflower as the focal point of my page, I sketched out a basic sunflower shape onto a piece of plain paper. Then I used Do Crafts Artiste Acrylic Paints in Canary yellow and Guava to colour the sunflower.  Once dry I thought the sunflower needed to be more textured and to create the texture I decided I chose to use tissue paper.

I gathered together some yellow and orange tissue paper squares and I thought these would be perfect as petals.

I folded each tissue paper square in half and then cut out a petal shape, so from each square you would end up with two petals.

I cut around the painted sunflower shape and then attached the tissue paper petals to it. I glued down a layer of orange tissue paper petals first and then a layer of yellow and so on.... and allow to dry. Meanwhile I used Lime green acrylic paint to create a stem for the sunflower on my page, I used a palette knife to drag the colour down the page to give the stem some texture. I then wanted to decorate the background further so I used Yellow, White, Lime green and some Blue paint through various different stencils to make the background more pleasing and interesting. I then took some old blue painted paper from my scraps and tore it into strips and stuck it down towards the base of the stem, I needed to create an anchor, so that my sunflower wouldn't be floating in the middle of the page.

Now it was time to add some journaling, so I thought it was a good idea to journal on the back of the sunflower before I stuck it down to my page. Sometimes I like to add secret journaling, its not there for anyone to read just for me to let go of any feelings and thoughts I might have. I added the sunflower and everything was looking good. I just wanted to complete the page with some embellishments. I made a tiny envelope and a miniature card to go inside. I journaled on the inside of the card and after placing the card back in to the envelope, I glued it to my page.
