Summer In The Sun

I created this art journal page for Krazy island studios prompts July week 2 Summer in the sun and also August week 2 Summer is hot. As both prompts were similar in theme I decided to make one double page spread that would be for both prompts. 

The background was created by applying the various coloured paints using a brayer. I layered the colours on top of one another to create texture in the background and to make it look more like the sand and the sea. 

The ice-cream cone was painted using children's poster paints and then I went over it with watercolour pencils to add details. The actual ice cream itself was also painted but this time I used emulsion paint from tester pots. 

The girls face and hair were drawn on to a separate piece of paper and the I used promarkers and also acrylic paints to colour her in. I went over the face with a white sekura gelli roll pen to add highlights and then I stuck her down.

I drew on the arms and legs and then in the same way as I create the face I added detail to her limbs. 

The dress and the ribbons in her hair were collaged on. I cut the dress shape out of some scrap paper and also the center of the ribbons. I glued these down and I then stuck down some pre made embellishments (like the teddy bear, sandcastle and shell's). I Added some rub on's, one for the sun in the top right corner and the other and the bottom right corner. I then decided I wanted somewhere to add hidden journaling. so I created a flap.  I then painted the flap to match the rest of the page and then painted the girls legs/ feet but this time underwater so I gave her some diving fins. Lastly I journaled on to the flap and then added the title and the date.
