Week 22 - Journal 52 prompt -Traveling.

For this prompt I decided to draw a beautiful Japanese geisha. [Geisha are traditional Japanese entertainers who act as hostesses and whose skills include performing various Japanese arts such as classic music, dance and games.] I would really love to go to Japan one day and experience all the delightful sights and to soak up the wonderful culture.

I made this page by using some printed paper for the background, which I painted over with a semi-transparent coat of yellow paint. I used a stencil to create a purple sunray beaming down from the left hand side of the page onto my Geisha girl. I drew the basic face of my Geisha girl onto a separate piece of paper using a black biro, I then used Pro Markers to colour her face and lips, also to add grey highlights to her hair, then stuck her down onto my journal page.

The fan was made up from scraps from an old sheet of patterned paper, I cut the paper into several pieces and then arranged them back together to form a fan shape. For the flowers in her hair, I used some flower patterned scrapbook paper, which I fussy cut around the individual flower shapes and then stuck them all into place.

The Kimono was also put together using some paper I had in my stash, I liked the dragons printed on it and the pattern seemed quite oriental to me, I cut the paper to size, to form a dress for the geisha and then added a strip of striped paper to each collar of the kimono (dress) and then positioned them to form the crossed over effect at the front of her kimono.

I then added some 3d stickers, which  I have had for some time [Escape & Away we go].  In the bottom right corner is a sticker of a message in a bottle (sorry you can't see it, as it got cropped out :\ but I promise you it is there!)  I placed it on this page because it reminds me of a song my father used to listen to.

: message in a bottle - by Police

Lastly I wrote the lyrics to the song on her fan.
